The weekend before last saw some good action in the Mackerel department. Laurie Malton and Lou Parker both decide to take their boats up north around the Sandpatch. They managed a number of hook-ups on Mackerel. Fishing from Laurie’s boat, Jared Malton landed a couple of nice fish, including a Broad Barred Mackerel of 9.5 kilos (a potential state record). Jared also landed a Estuary Cod of 20.25 kilos, while Laurie boated a nice Dhufish weighing over 8 kilos. They also landed a number of Skippy.

Paul Loffler also headed out with a crew to participate in the fishing competition. In strong winds he headed out West around 4 kilometres till he saw a nice lump on the sounder. Within minutes of throwing down their lines they were hooking into some beautiful big fish. A heap of huge Blowies were landed, including a couple of double-headers. They also pulled in a nice Cobia of around 10pounds that flicked off right at the boat.

Moving in closer to shore, they were once again rewarded with some North West Blowfish. They moved around 15 km south, along the cliffs and were soon into a bunch of big Toadfish. All these fish were released by the environmentally friendly fishers on board.

Paul also managed to sneak out for a quick fish last Friday afternoon. In an impressive display of bravery, Craig Addison (a chronic sufferer of seasickness) joined the expedition. Craig managed to pull in his first ever Pink Snapper and an unusual but apparently tasty fish commonly referred to as a Red Big Eye. Loff also managed a couple of Blue Lined Emperor and a nice Snapper.
